Portland Liposuction

If you are not sure what liposuction is, it is a surgical procedure that many Portland liposuction qualified surgeons use to provide refinement to your figure. People who think liposuction is a weight loss method are mistaken, and they cannot use it instead of traditional methods of reducing weight.

The amounts of fat removed during a liposuction procedure are actually quite small, and the patient does not lose much weight. Many people, after losing most of the weight, have areas of the body that still contain fat and, using liposuction, the surgeon can trim these trouble spots to conform to the slim shape of the rest of the body.

Areas such as hips, buttock, thighs, knees, arms, chin and neck, stomach and, of course, the infamous "love handles" are typical areas addressed with liposuction. In these cases, the patient has lost the weight but, no matter what they do, these areas stubbornly remain. During the procedure Portland liposuction surgeons use equipment that lets them change the contour of the body by removing fat from these specific areas.

During the procedure, the fat beneath the skin is permanently removed with a suction device. Often liposuction is also used on men to reduce the size of male breasts by removing fat from the pectoralis area. Portland liposuction have indicated that patients who possess firm, elastic skin and small concentrated areas of fat benefit the most from the procedure.

This is because the skin needs to contract around the newly reduced area and conform to the new contours to really look good. Since skin needs to be elastic on good liposuction candidates, older people with less elastic skin may not be recommended to have the procedure.

It can vary with the size of the treated area, but most patients are able to return to their normal activities in 1 or 2 weeks. But to fully recover from the procedure, it will usually take a patient 2 or 3 months. For the first few weeks after surgery, many surgeons recommend wearing a compression garment.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, abbreviated "UAL", is a new variant of the typical liposuction procedure. In UAL a probe is used that produces a high frequency ultrasonic sound. This high frequency sound actually makes the fat cells turn to liquid so they can then be vacuumed up by the suction part of the device.

By using UAL, a surgeon can remove larger amounts of fat since the device does not produce as much tissue damage or bleeding as the traditional device. Compared with traditional liposuction, UAL also produces less bruising. UAL has another advantage over traditional liposuction in that it is much less likely that there will be irregularities in the contour of the treated area.

However, due to the nature of the UAL probe, this procedure can only be done on certain areas of the body and you should check with your surgeon to see if you can use this technique. This technique may also be significantly more expensive, since the equipment used is quite costly. There are reports of the first two generations of UAL equipment sometimes damaging skin with sound waves that were too powerful. This problem has apparently been resolved on third and later generation machines.

Often, Portland liposuction surgeons will employ both UAL and traditional equipment in a surgery, depending on the patient and where the treatment area is, so you may find this true in your area also.
